Definitions of Psychic Terms
Psi – A collective name for all paranormal or psychic phenomena.
Parapsychology - The scientific study of the evidence for paranormal phenomena such as telepathy, clairvoyance, and psychokinesis.
Extra sensory perception (ESP) – The reception of information independently of sight, hearing, feeling touch or taste.
Psychokinesis – The process of moving or affecting physical objects using the mind only, without making any physical contact.
Clairvoyance – The power to see objects, people or events that cannot be perceived by the five senses.
Telepathy – Communication between two or more minds by means other than the known senses.
Precognition - Knowledge of something in advance of its occurrence, usually by ESP.
Retrocognition – Extrasensory perception of something that has happened in the past.
Bilocation – The ability to exist simultaneously in two locations.
Astral Body – The ethereal counterpart or double which exists alongside the physical body, as a vehicle of the soul or consciousness.
Astral Projection – The act of separating the astral body from the physical body.
Remote Viewing – the ability to gather information about a distant or unseen target using ESP.
Psychic Healing – The alleged ability to bring physical healing to a person using supernatural powers rather than orthodox treatment / medicine.
Psychic Surgery – The aalleged means of healing tissue, or removing diseased tissue, with bare hands or simple instruments, painlessly and without injury to the patient.
Mediumship – A form of communication with spirits of the dead or entities from other realms. A person thought to have the power to communicate with these spirits or entities is known as a Medium.
Channeling – The process where a person (the “channeler”) serves as a medium through which a spirit entity / guide purportedly communicates with living.
Psychometry – The ability to obtain knowledge about an object or about a person connected with it, through touch.
The Aura – A luminous emanation said to surround human beings and objects that certain people are said to be able to see using psychic powers.
Divination – The attempt to foretell the future or discover hidden knowledge about an object, event, place or person by supernatural means.
Dowsing – Searching for underground water, minerals or other buried or hidden objects by using a dowsing rod or pendulum.
Scrying - Also called Crystal Gazing. A type of Divination where a person (the “scryer”) gazes at an object with a reflective surface (usually a crystal ball, bowl of water, mirror, candle) until prophetic visions appear or hidden knowledge is revealed.
